Kirtan Yoga Christchurch / Ananda's KirtanWave

Picture
Kirtan Yoga Christchurch is a non-profit project that focuses on sharing the profound and uplifting practice of Kirtan (the Yoga of Music) with the people in and around Christchurch. Ever since the first Kirtan event in June 2016, KYC have been putting on Kirtan events monthly.
Events are run on a donation basis, so that experiencing Kirtan is possible for anyone and everyone.

Ananda founded and runs Kirtan Yoga Christchurch and is one of the voices of Ananda's KirtanWave. She learned this heart-opening practice about 22 years ago through a friend who introduced her to Bhakti Yoga. Whilst she was studying education at university she continued practicing this wonderful sung meditation, which also helped her to get through the ups and downs of Uni stress. Later on she got initiated into the sacred tradition of Vaishnavism and Bhakti yoga.

What people say:

"Kirtan, more than any other practice brings me to a place of deep joy and delight. I love the connection I feel within and also to everyone who is in the room. Ananda and Prema facilitate this connection, with their beautiful open hearts –many, many thanks to you both."
Anna Jakes, Founder of and Senior Yoga Teacher @ Sanctuary Health Christchurch
"Still very novice in my practice, Kirtan has been an experience I haven't quite yet found the words for to describe. Certainly an outer body experience to say the least. Chanting mantras has really helped to look deeper within myself and seek peace and understanding, not only within myself but also with the world around me. I was welcomed with open arms by warm hearted people who made me feel right at home. Would highly  recommend for all those seeking love, peace and understanding."
Mordecai, Christchurch
"I am so glad I went to a kirtan workshop three or four years ago where I first met Ananda and Prema who were leading it.  I was soon to discover what a valuable practice this would be and have been an enthusiastic participant on many occasions now. While I have now experienced kirtan in several different settings, I have to say that the most special events have been with Ananda and Prema.  They create such a warm and friendly atmosphere whether its in a yoga studio or in their own home. Then of course, there is the kirtan which is just so refreshing and uplifting, and a wonderful tool for quieting the internal chatter. This couple support us all to make beautiful music together and it's the resonance of this sound, and the chanting that just lifts my spirit right up there.  It all adds up to a very joyful time indeed!"
